Leg, Hip or Pelvis
"I often get an aching in the front of my
thigh"
"It helps to perch on the edge of my seat rather than sit back
into it"
"It feels as if my hip is the problem but I'm starting to get
pain in my knee"
The pelvis is the region that most
people would refer to as their hips. It's the junction
between
the top part and bottom part of our bodies, and is made up of 3
large bones. The hips,
technically speaking, hang off the pelvis. This area is crucial to
almost everything we do!
Common sites of pain that might
indicate a pelvic problem are:
- low back
- buttocks
- groin
- front part of the thigh
- outside of the leg
Two of the more frequent types of problem are:
- Sacro-iliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction. (The sacro-iliac joint is
formed by the sacrum and the
large bony area of the pelvis known as the ilium.)
- SPD (Symphysis-pubis dysfunction) - aka Pelvic Girdle Pain
(PGP) - occurs quite
commonly in pregnancy, and is due to the increased strain that is
placed upon the pelvis
at a time when the ligaments in the body become more lax in
preparation for childbirth.
Pain that is deep inside the hip joint...aching/clicky
knees...sharp pain in the sole of the foot...
tight calves/Achilles heel...These are all common complaints
that osteopaths see. In the case
of arthritis, it is often possible to alleviate some of the
symptoms, and simple lifestyle
adjustments can also be highly effective. While the underlying
cartilage/bone changes can't be
undone, manual therapy can be effective in providing symptomatic
relief.
If you haven't tried osteopathy before, why not book an
appointment to see whether or not it
might help you?
